Eye lift/eyelid lift

The term “eye lift” is, strictly speaking, incorrect. Only excess skin is removed both above and under the eyes. In other words, a so-called eyelid lift.

Causes and Indication

Eye lift - Over time, excess skin may occur in the area of the upper eyelids. This may have genetic causes, but it may also be lifestyle effects.

The later in the evening, the lower the eyelid is!

Eye lift - Eyelid surgery should be considered when, on the one hand, permanent facial fatigue prevails or there is a viewing angle restriction.

In female patients, attention is also paid to the staining of mascara on the upper eyelids.

target

Eye lift - The aim should not be a new look, but just a fresh and durable look. If too much skin is removed from the upper eyelid, it can have the opposite effect and create a rather diseased look.

How much skin is removed is a matter of discretion. Natural skin wrinkles are selected for the incision.

It is important to leave the adipose tissue, which was removed earlier as standard. This often resulted in cavernous eyes, which created just this pathological look.

A good eyelid lift should not be noticed by third parties at all.

It gets even more complex in the lower eyelid, as the fat tissue is often also removed here. This is because the bags under the eyes caused by adipose tissue are the cause of a tired appearance and therefore an indication for surgical correction. The excess skin can be elegantly measured, tightened and lifted in the outer corner of the eye. Here, too, it is extremely important to remove too little rather than too much.

The scars are elegantly hidden in small eye wrinkles and are therefore virtually invisible later.

Careful surgery and extensive hemostasis rarely cause bruises. But it is never ruled out.

As a rule, you are socially acceptable again after 7-10 days. The pain after the procedure is very slight or sometimes even non-existent.

How do I choose a surgeon for an eyelid lift?

Choosing a qualified surgeon for your blepharoplasty is a crucial step, as their skill can make the difference between a nice result and a botched result.

The following is a guide to help you choose the best surgeon.

Request before and after pictures

Eye lift - If you have chosen a cosmetic surgeon, how can you be sure that you will like the results of his work? Try to see some before and after pictures of the surgeon. Many surgeons will provide you with these photos during the consultation appointment.

Ask questions

Most importantly, an experienced plastic surgeon is able to answer all of your questions without hesitation. Bring a list of critical questions with you to your consultation appointment — if the surgeon can answer them all with certainty, you're probably in good hands.

An experienced surgeon will also thoroughly explain all the details of your eyelid surgery, including how to prepare, the risks, and the results you can realistically expect. After consulting with an expert, you should feel a sense of confidence and a high level of trust in your surgeon. Few things are as important as trusting your surgeon!

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF EYE LIFTS?

UPPER EYELID LIFT

Eye lift is a technique that is often used to open the eyes by removing excess, sagging skin from the upper eyelids.

LOWER EYELID LIFT

There are two basic procedures for lower eyelid surgery. The appropriate technique is determined jointly by Dr. Niehus and the patient.

The external approach, also known as a skin-muscle approach, removes skin and fat deposits. The more conservative internal method, known as transconjunctival eyelid surgery, only removes the fat deposits.

HOW DO I FIND OUT WHICH EYELID LIFT IS RIGHT FOR ME?

During your eye lift consultation with Dr. Niehus, you will discuss the problems you are having with your aging eyes. What would you like to change? Dr. Niehus will then examine your eyelids and surrounding skin. He will focus on the amount of sagging skin and possible fat accumulations. He'll discuss with you what he's seeing and encourage you to ask any questions.

Then he will tell you if he thinks an upper or lower eyelid correction is enough to improve your condition. In most cases, patients choose to have both eyelids operated on, but that depends on the individual patient.
